New patients
Welcome to Cobham Dental.
Everything you need to know before your first visit, from what to expect to fees, membership, directions and booking.
Step by step
Your first appointment
- 01
Meeting the team
You will be welcomed at reception, shown where everything is and introduced to the dentist and nurse looking after you.
- 02
Your concerns and goals
Before anything else, we ask what has brought you in, whether anything is bothering you and what you would like to change. Nothing is decided before that conversation.
- 03
Dental examination
A careful examination of your teeth and existing dentistry, looking for decay, wear, cracks and restorations that may need attention.
- 04
Gum-health assessment
A periodontal (gum) health evaluation, which is part of the new patient examination, to record the condition of the gums and supporting bone.
- 05
Soft tissue and oral cancer screening
A soft tissue examination and oral cancer screening are included in the new patient examination.
- 06
X-rays where clinically required
Any necessary x-rays are taken as part of the new patient examination, only where they are clinically justified for your case.
- 07
Discussing the findings
We explain what we have found in plain language, using images and scans on screen where they help, so you can see what we are describing.
- 08
Your options
Where treatment is needed, we set out the realistic options, including doing nothing or monitoring, with the benefits and trade-offs of each.
- 09
A written estimate
A treatment plan and estimate are provided as part of the new patient examination where treatment is recommended, so costs are clear before you commit.

- Details of any medicines you are currently taking, including doses.
- The name of your previous dentist, if you would like us to request records.
- Any referral letter or x-rays sent by another dentist or specialist.
- Details of any dental insurance or payment plan you already hold.
- Your bank details if you plan to join one of our membership plans on the day.
If you would prefer to arrive a little early to complete paperwork, reception will be happy to help.
Medical history
Before any treatment, your dentist will ask about relevant medical information — conditions you are being treated for, medicines you take and any allergies. This is because some medical conditions and medicines affect dental treatment and healing. Please do not send medical details through this website: we take your history in person, or securely at the practice, and it is kept confidentially as part of your dental record.
Treatment planning
After the examination we go through the findings with you and, where treatment is needed, set out the options and their trade-offs. Nothing is booked in that appointment unless you want it to be. Where a plan is recommended you receive a written estimate, and you are welcome to take it away and think it over, or ask our treatment coordinator questions before deciding.
Our plans spread the cost of routine care across the year. Adult and child plans are shown below; the student plan and full detail are on the plans and fees page.

This includes a soft tissue examination, oral cancer screening, a periodontal (gum) health evaluation, any necessary x-rays and a treatment plan and estimate where treatment is recommended.
A new patient examination is £65 for adults and £56 for patients aged 5–18. Children under 5 are seen free of charge if a parent is a patient of the practice. Any treatment you go on to have is quoted separately in a written estimate.
Details of any medicines you take, the name of your previous dentist if you would like records requested, any referral letter or x-rays from another practice, and your bank details if you plan to join a membership plan on the day.
Any necessary x-rays are included in the new patient examination. They are only taken where your dentist judges them clinically justified for you, and we use digital sensors so the images appear on screen immediately.
Yes. Our Adult Membership Plan is £28.50 a month and the Child Membership Plan £12.50 a month, both including two comprehensive examinations a year and all necessary x-rays. Speak to reception at your visit or call 01932 866966 and we will confirm eligibility and set up the monthly payment.
